EM24: Group for the Investigation of Infectious Diseases of the province of Cádiz (GIPIC)

The "Group for the study of infectious pathology in the province of Cádiz" arises from the idea of studying infectious pathology from a multidisciplinary point of view. Thus, the presence in the group of endocrinologists, traumatologists, nephrologists, microbiologists and infectologists, will allow a broader approach to Infectious Diseases in different areas.

The group has been formed coinciding with the creation of INiBICA, so the research lines have been recently developed. The lines that the group intends to work on are:

• Implant-associated infections: Study of infections associated with joint prostheses, osteosynthesis material or cardiovascular devices (pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, etc.). Both descriptive studies of this type of infections and analytical studies will be carried out, seeking to identify risk factors for the development of these infections and prognostic factors in their evolution.
• HIV infection: Multicenter studies on the different epidemiological and clinical characteristics of these patients, as well as efficacy studies of the different treatment regimens used.
• Optimization of antimicrobial treatments: Analysis of the results obtained with the "Rational Use of Antibiotics" programs that are carried out in the different hospitals.
• Hospital bacteremia. Descriptive and analytical studies on hospital bacteraemias.
• Diabetic Foot Infection. Analysis of the cohort of patients treated by the Diabetic Foot Unit of the Puerto Real University Hospital.
• Infections in patients undergoing extrarenal purification techniques. Study of the various infectious pathologies in a population that, due to its characteristics, make it especially susceptible to suffering from this type of pathology.
