The INiBICA Biobank Unit is defined as one of the research support platforms whose mission is to act as a link between medical collectors, researchers and patients who donate biological samples for research purposes. biomedical, so that this interaction occurs under the current legal conditions and with the appropriate ethical guarantees. This Unit is part of the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia (SSPA), as a provincial node of this Biobank.

The SSPA Biobank is an initiative of the Department of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía. By virtue of Decree 1/2013, of January 8, the SSPA Biobank was created and configured as a "Network Biobank", with a common ethical framework, a single organizational structure and a decentralized activity and integrating biobanks from research, tissue banks for therapeutic purposes, transfusion medicine centers and SSPA spaces for the collection, treatment, conservation and management of human biological samples and their associated information. The Biobank is configured in 2 areas, one for care and the other for research. It is a biobank authorized to operate for the purposes of biomedical research and treatment of biological samples of human origin, with no. registration B.0000505 (HUPM) in the National Registry of Biobanks (ISCIII), according to the provisions of RD 1716/2011.

The centers that currently make up the INiBICA Biobank in the province of Cádiz are:

• HUPM, Puerta del Mar University Hospital (headquarters of the Provincial Biobank Unit).
• HUPR, Puerto Real University Hospital.
• HJerez, Jerez de la Frontera University Hospital.
• CTTC, Center for Transfusion, Tissues and Cells of the province of Cádiz.
• HLínea, La Línea de la Concepción Hospital.

The human resources dedicated to the INiBICA Biobank Research Area are:

• A senior specialist technician (Biotechnologist) in the HUPM node.
• A specialist laboratory technician at the HUPR node.

The other centers (HJerez, CTTC, HLínea), carry out biobank work in the collection and filing of samples with the care resources available at the Pathological Anatomy Unit (HJerez and HLínea) or at the CTTC.

The main objective of the INiBICA Biobank is to improve the quality and quantity of donations for the SSPA Biobank, developing in our node an Andalusian reference center for the Registry of Donors of Samples for Biomedical Research (RDMI) and Digital Biobank.

The results achieved to date have been satisfactory, since the INiBICA node in the province of Cádiz accounts for 10% of all the activity of the Biobank of the SSPA in the number of registered parent samples.
