CO8: CTS1038 MOVE-IT Empowering Health by Physical Activity, Exercise and Nutrition

The MOVE-IT research group is a group made up of young researchers in the field of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, mostly, and Physiotherapy researchers, all of whom have joined the UCA in the last 8 years.

The research group focuses mainly on the study of health improvement and prevention through lifestyle habits such as nutrition, physical activity and exercise. In addition, it also investigates in the field of sports performance and the physiology of effort, as well as carrying out research in collaboration with the company and knowledge transfer on this subject.

Its different lines of research are always developed in collaboration with a team of multidisciplinary researchers belonging to the same University and local health field, as well as national and international fields.

The members of the MOVE-IT research team have a high rate of scientific production (>300 articles in the last 10 years), participation in national and international research projects (>30 in the last 10 years), as well as project management and recruitment of competitive public funds (6 projects, >€1,100,000 last 5 years). Regarding the training capacity of the group, the group's doctoral team is currently directing a total of 16 doctoral theses in progress with expected completion dates of 3-4 years.

The group's doctors are speakers of recognized prestige in their area, giving invited presentations at different national and international events and congresses. This group has the common philosophy of trying to contribute to science under the concepts of effort-work, excellence, impact and collaboration, while fostering camaraderie, respect and enjoyment with friends of science.

Principal Investigator
Lines of research
  • Physical activity, exercise and nutrition in people at risk of mild cognitive impairment and/or Alzheimer's: The MOVE-IT group leads this new line of research under the funding of the National Plan (RETOS-2016) with the aim of analyzing the effect of a supervised physical exercise program on cognitive, brain (MRI) and metabolomic parameters in older people at risk of mild cognitive impairment (Prof. Ana Carbonell-Baeza and David Jiménez-Pavón).
  • Habits of life, exercise and active/healthy ageing: In addition to line 1, the MOVE-IT group leads this innovative line of research with the funding of various public entities such as the ITI-FEDER funds of the Junta de Andalucía (2017) and the European Commission-ERASMUS+SPORT program (2018) with the aim of describing and analyzing the effect of supervised physical exercise on markers of aging and frailty in people over 65 years of age, at the same time that it is described at a national level. correct lifestyle habits promote healthy aging (Prof. Ana Carbonell-Baeza and David Jiménez-Pavón).
  • Activities in nature as a means of promoting Physical and Mental Health: The research group develops this line of research under the financing of a project of the Ministry of Health (2018) that aims to study the effect of a program of activities in nature in people with moderate depression on their physical and mental health and hormonal parameters (prof. Vanesa España-Romero).
  • Physical activity, exercise and nutrition in people with overweight, obesity or diabetes: The group has a track record, publications and has developed several projects from UCA in recent years (UCA's own plan; transfer contract-companies), in which which aims to see how lifestyle habits (physical activity and nutrition) and various exercise programs can improve the metabolic profile and health of people with overweight and obesity and/or diabetes (prof. Jesús G. Ponce-González and David Jiménez-Pavón).
Vanesa España-Romero).
