Psychological, social and emotional factors linked to quality of life

The research group is directed by Mrs. Rocío Guil Bozal, school professor and director of the Department of Psychology. She is the founder of the PAIDI HUM-843 research group, of which all the researchers in the group are part. Likewise, we are members of the Research Institute for Sustainable Social Development (INDESS) and the Biomedical Research and Innovation Institute (INIBICA). For years we have focused our line of research in the field of evaluation and identification of socio-emotional skills linked to adaptation, detection of risk profiles, as well as the development and implementation of intervention programs. In recent years our research has focused on the implications of emotional intelligence and various indicators of perceived health and quality of life, specifically in breast oncology. We are authors of manuals and books on psychosocial and emotional aspects and health, as well as scientific publications in journals with high quality indexes, indexed in the Journal Citation Reports.

Lines of research
  • Emotional Intelligence and mental health processes: it is about studying how psychosocial and emotional factors influence therapeutic recovery processes and their social development (for example, resilience).
  • Quality of Life in cancer patients: tries to focus on the psychological processes that affect and improve the quality of life in cancer patients as well as the development of APPs that allow monitoring of their social and personal functioning.
  • Quality of life and psychosocial and emotional risk and protective factors in oncology: The objectives in this line focus on the study of the quality of life of cancer patients (recently diagnosed and/or in the treatment phase). We will evaluate, through a battery of psychological tests, your quality of life according to the concept and dimensions proposed by the WHO. Based on the results, risk and protection profiles associated with quality of life will be established.
  • Emotional intelligence and emotional regulation as mediating and protective factors of adaptation in states of health and quality of life: We will focus on the study of emotional variables such as Emotional Intelligence and the Regulation of emotions in vulnerable populations.
  • e-Health: The objectives related to this line are focused on the development of mobile applications for self-management of health by the patient. In this way, we intend to promote better care by health professionals towards cancer patients and establish a Psycho-oncology service in the Andalusian Health Service.
