CO1: INMOX (Inflammation, Nutrition, Metabolism and Oxidative Stress)

Our research focuses primarily on the search for novel diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies whose primary purpose is to treat and prevent obesity, diabetes, and their complications from the gestational stage to adulthood, and on the influence of nutrition on inflammation and oxidative stress. We are a multidisciplinary group with a strong translational focus, from the research laboratory to the patient and society as a whole.

The members of Team are distributed between the IN-CO1 group IN-CO1 Cádiz Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation Cádiz INiBICA) and the CTS-927 group CTS-927 Plan Andaluz de Investigación PAIDI), within the context of a mixed group composed of a Team made up of specialist doctors in the field of pediatrics and physiotherapy, nurses, and a Team in biomedical research from the Research Unit of Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar biochemists and biologists) and the Department of Biomedicine, Biotechnology, and Public Health (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Area) of the University of Cádiz. Biomedical research focuses on developing novel diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies for the care and prevention of obesity, diabetes, and their complications, from the gestation stage to adulthood. The group's experience in the analysis of oxidative stress, antioxidant response, and energy metabolism is implemented in the identification of biomarkers of risk for associated complications and inflammatory diseases.

  • Line 1: In vivo antioxidant activity of foods. Development of biochemical techniques for the in vivo analysis of the actual antioxidant activity of foods after ingestion. This line of work is intended as a service to companies in the agri-food sector interested in clinically certifying the actual antioxidant activity in people who consume their products.
