THE INSTITUTE

INiBICA is the health research institute of the province of Cádiz , accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), whose mission is to generate knowledge through the territorial coordination of health research and innovation (R&I) activities to improve both specialized patient care and the health of the entire population. The Institute is the result of a collaboration agreement signed between the Regional Government of Andalusia, the University of Cádiz , and the Foundation for the Management of Biomedical Research at Cádiz.

INiBICA is managed by the Foundation for the Management of Biomedical Research at the University of Cádiz ( Cádiz ) (FCÁDIZ), a nonprofit organization whose assets are permanently dedicated to the advancement of teaching, scientific research, and technological development in the health sciences. Cádiz 's Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (INiBICA) was established in 2016 thanks to funding from the Regional Development Fund (FEDER), which came through the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) program for the province of Cádiz. INiBICA is physically integrated into the public health system, enabling professionals to quickly and easily access tools and resources.

This IIS focuses its research on five scientific programs: Neuroscience and Behavior; Inflammation; Onco-hematology; Epidemiology and Public Health; and Innovative and Emerging Therapies, which encompass 60 research groups divided into 30 established groups, 16 emerging groups, and 14 clinical partner groups. In addition, the institute has a cross-cutting strategic initiative dedicated to science-to-business transfer in the marine sector.

El 28 de noviembre de 2025 fue acreditado como Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III, organismo dependiente del Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. Este sello de excelencia acredita la calidad científica, la solidez de su gobernanza y su impacto directo en la salud de la sociedad, suponiendo un reconocimiento e impulso estratégico para toda la investigación sanitaria que se desarrolla en la provincia de Cádiz. INiBICA, composed of more than 700 researchers, places patients and society at large at the center of its work, fostering responsible research and innovation. It promotes territorial integration and cohesion, transparency in management, and collaborative work among clinical professionals, universities, research centers, and companies. Furthermore, it is committed to attracting and developing talent in a motivating environment dedicated to making a real impact on health and transforming the economic model of the province of Cádiz.
