The NeurAlz group conducts research on Alzheimer’s disease and the mechanisms involved in the deposition and clearance of beta-amyloid. In recent years, we have focused on studying the role of metabolic abnormalities—particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus—in the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. To this end, we utilize various hybrid models that we have developed and characterized in our laboratory. At the same time, we have explored various therapeutic approaches focused on metabolic control. In our studies, we use sophisticated neuroimaging techniques such as in vivo, real-time multiphoton microscopy.
