CO24: Nanotheranostics

CO24: Nanotheranostics

The group emerged from the collaboration of three specialists in the application of nanotechnology to various medical disciplines. Their research focuses on the design, preparation, and characterization of biocompatible nanoparticles for theranostics in oncology and immunology, as well as the development of computational models for the planning (preclinical and clinical) of magnetic hyperthermia treatments.

Lines of research
  • Line 1: In silico hyperthermia studies. Using virtual animal and human phantoms, we perform computer simulations of therapies and diagnostic techniques based on the interaction of electromagnetic fields and nanomaterials in the kHz frequency range.
  • Line 2: Development of point-of-care (PoC) tests for monitoring cancer patients. We are collaborating with researchers from other centers to design a nanotechnology that will enable PoC testing to monitor cancer patients after treatment. Our main goal is the early detection of cancer recurrence.
  • Line 3: Metallic, magnetic, and fluorescent nanoparticles for the detection of therapeutic cells using imaging techniques. We design chemical synthesis processes for new nanoparticles with different physical properties that are subsequently used in the detection and tracking of therapeutic targets.
  • Line 4: Design and fabrication of tissue models for the validation of nanotheranostic techniques. We develop models that replicate the physical and biological properties of tissues, which are used as testing platforms to evaluate the efficacy and safety of new nanotechnology-based diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
