El grupo está formado por un equipo multidisciplinar, con gran experiencia en Biomatemática (modelos matemáticos en cáncer, resistencia, diabetes y otras patologías). Sus trabajos y estudios se centran en desarrollo de modelos y herramientas matemáticas para el diseño de nuevas terapias y/o la optimización de otras ya existentes en el tratamiento de tumores del sistema nervioso central, pulmón y leucemias. Además, el equipo colabora con el Grupo de Investigación MôLAB (Mathematical Oncology Laboratory) de la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, pionero en este campo.

Lines of research

Line 1: Research into biomedical problems related to hematology, tumors, treatment resistance, and diabetes (related to the kinetics of hemoglobin glycation in blood).
Line 2: The objective of this group is to use mathematical tools to obtain results applicable to onco-hematology and diabetes. We will develop several mathematical models that describe the dynamics of different types of cancer in blood and their response to treatment. We will validate them using integrated diagnostic data from affected patients as well as data from experimental models, and we will use them to design optimized therapeutic strategies. In the case of diabetes, we will work on the development of a mathematical model that describes the process of hemoglobin glycation. We will search for new alternative markers of interest to identify possible diabetes-related pathologies and to monitor the progression of the disease.
Line 3: From a mathematical point of view, our methodology will combine the use and study of ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical simulation, data analysis techniques, statistical tools, and optimization methods.
