The regional representative for Health and Consumer Affairs, Eva Pajares, visited the information table set up in Cádiz by Cádiz Spanish Association Against Cancer to mark World Cancer Research Day. She shared in the commemoration with the association's managing director in the province, María Jiménez, and other authorities.

Pajares highlighted the "commitment" of the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation in the province of Cádiz INiBICA), which currently has several lines of research aimed at developing advances against this disease.

INiBICA has a specific program in Onco-Hematology, taking advantage of the synergy between university and clinical research staff. This area has launched new Lines of research on cancer, with two Projects funded at the national and regional levels.

The first consists of a non-pharmacological clinical trial with an emotional intervention to increase the work capacity and return-to-work rates of breast cancer survivors by improving anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment. This project is led by José Manuel Baena, a professional at the Puerta del Mar University Hospital and member of INiBICA, and Rocío Guil, from the University of Cádiz UCA).

The second aims to improve early diagnosis of ovarian cancer through a validation trial of diagnostic algorithms using biomarkers in blood and urine, carried out by professionals at Puerto Real University Hospital Puerto Real leaders of the IniBICA group, Diego Santotoribio and Juan Jesús Fernández.

Within the Epidemiology and Public Health program, the recent participation of researchers from the MOVE-IT group at INiBICA and UCA, led by David Jiménez, in the European OACCUs (Outdoors Against Cancer) project, which aims to promote a healthy lifestyle for young cancer patients (aged 15 to 39) through outdoor physical activity, psychoeducation, good nutrition, and healthy environments.

Finally, the Emerging and Innovative Therapies program includes innovative lines of research such as that led by Carmen Castro, a researcher at the institute and the UCA, aimed at finding new drugs for the treatment of highly aggressive brain tumors such as human glioblastoma, for which there is no successful treatment to slow the growth of this type of tumor.

The Cádiz Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (INiBICA) is a joint institute between the Andalusian Health Service and the University of Cádiz is committed to promoting health research and innovation in the province to solve problems demanded by society, such as improving the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
