EM7: Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery: Clinical Studies and Experimental Models

A multidisciplinary clinical and basic research group focused on the study of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes, as well as the mechanisms involved in how various bariatric surgery techniques affect both conditions. The group’s work is oriented toward human clinical practice and includes the development of experimental studies in animals.

Line 1: Effects of bariatric surgery techniques on metabolic syndrome and inflammatory status in obese patients.

Line 5: Pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and molecular biology of related metabolic mechanisms.
Line 6: Progression and development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Impact on the resolution of T2DM following bariatric surgery. Preconditioning for hepatocellular carcinoma.
