IN35: Vascular Research Applied to Medicine and Development

The group’s researchers consist of specialist physicians from the Clinical Management Unit of Angiology and Vascular Surgery at the Hospital de la Universidad de Zaragoza ( Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar ) in Cádiz, who have been working for years on Projects research and actively participate in various Phase II, III, and IV clinical trials. They also collaborate with other established research groups on specimen collection and clinical consultation. Their Lines of research is primarily clinical, and they strive to combine the high volume of patient care provided in their specialty—as the only unit of its kind in the province of Cádiz —with both experimental research and the search for etiological factors that may influence these pathologies, as well as new therapeutic strategies.

Lines of research
  • Objective 1: Define the demographic and anatomical characteristics of the foot in our population. Establish a structured program for screening and identifying high-risk feet in patients with diabetes.
  • Line 2: Prevention of ulcer formation through a dynamic podogram, leading to treatment with effective pressure-relief measures.
  • Line 3: The influence of vascular risk factors on mortality and cardiovascular complications in patients who have undergone surgery for carotid disease and/or peripheral artery disease.
  • Line 4: Study the association between lipid levels and blood inflammatory markers: search for diagnostic markers for the early detection of high-risk patients.
  • Line 5: Proteomic analysis of atheromatous plaques to identify markers associated with the atherosclerotic process
