Professionals from the Cardiology Department at Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar in Cádiz the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation in Cádiz Inibica) will develop advanced image processing tools for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias thanks to an agreement with the company Adas 3D Medical.
This collaboration, under the name Gadas, stems from an initiative by Team at the Cadiz hospital, which aims to improve knowledge and treatment outcomes for arrhythmias with the help of magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac tomography.
To this end, and through Inibica, they have signed an agreement with Adas 3D Medical (a company based in Barcelona that originated from a research group at Pompeu Fabra University) which works on the development of software tools for the post-processing of medical images.
The Arrhythmias and Cardiac Electrophysiology Unit's main Lines of research include Lines of research the substrate of complex arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, using electroanatomical mapping techniques and non-invasive imaging such as tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Post-processing of these images allows three-dimensional reconstructions of the heart chambers to be obtained. These reconstructions can be useful for understanding the mechanisms that cause arrhythmias and for developing more personalized and precise therapies.
The Arrhythmia Unit Team is made up of cardiologists specializing in electrophysiology, cardiologists in training, nurses, and a biomedical engineer with experience in arrhythmias and medical imaging.
In addition, Gadas includes two Projects that will focus on the usefulness of three-dimensional anatomical reconstructions of the left atrium in catheter treatment of atrial fibrillation and on the identification and characterization of epicardial fat in patients with malignant ventricular arrhythmias.
