Professionals from the Cardiology Department at Hospital Universitario Puerta del MarCádiz and the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation Cádiz (Inibica) will develop advanced image-processing tools for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias thanks to an agreement with the company Adas 3D Medical.
This collaboration, known as Gadas, stems from an initiative by the arrhythmia-Team t at the hospital in Cádiz, which aims to improve understanding and treatment outcomes for arrhythmias with the help of cardiac MRI and CT scans.
To this end, and through Inibica, they have signed an agreement with Adas 3D Medical (a Barcelona-based company that originated from a research group at Pompeu Fabra University), which is working on the development of software tools for the post-processing of medical images.
The Arrhythmia and Cardiac Electrophysiology Unit’s main Lines of research include the study of the substrate of complex arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, using electroanatomical mapping and noninvasive imaging techniques such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Postprocessing these images allows for the creation of three-dimensional reconstructions of the heart chambers. These reconstructions can be useful for understanding the mechanisms that cause arrhythmias and for developing more personalized and precise treatments.
The Arrhythmia Unit's research team, the " Team ," is composed of cardiologists specializing in electrophysiology, cardiologists in training, nurses, and a biomedical engineer with experience in arrhythmias and medical imaging.
In addition, Gadas has included two research Projects that will focus on the usefulness of three-dimensional anatomical reconstructions of the left atrium in catheter-based treatment of atrial fibrillation and on the identification and characterization of epicardial fat in patients with malignant ventricular arrhythmias.
