The tool developed by Myriam Gallego, a pharmacist at the Team , enables more efficient management of high-impact medications
The “Farmastock” innovation project, led by Myriam Gallego—a physician in the Pharmacy Department at the Hospital de La Línea de la Concepción and a researcher at the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation at Cádiz (INiBICA)—has been awarded the ITEMAS Seal of Quality following its submission to the ITEMAS Innovation Support Program of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
The ITEMAS Innovation Support and Mentoring Program is the central “ Axis ” of this healthcare innovation platform at the National Institute of Health Research and Innovation ( ISCIII), which seeks to promote high-impact “ Projects ” to accelerate their implementation in the National Health System. INiBICA is a center affiliated with the ITEMAS platform through the node represented by the Maimónides Institute for Biomedical Research of Córdoba (IMIBIC). As an affiliated center, INiBICA is able to submit Projects to this program; on this occasion, the Institute has supported the first-ever submission of two Projects stemming from clinical research in the province of Cádiz, including Farmastock.
The “Farmastock” tool, developed and validated by the Team led by Myriam Gallego in collaboration with more than twenty centers in the Andalusian Public Health System, enables more efficient management of high-impact, high-cost drugs thanks to the interconnection among hospitals. This approach could be key to the sustainability strategy of the National Public Health System, as its implementation could lead to savings on costs associated with managing drugs with a high economic impact.
Receiving the ITEMAS quality seal and a positive evaluation report from the Innovation Committee means that the researcher Team will receive support services from ITEMAS—ISCIII —specifically, a service to monitor the contractual frameworks of the licenses, as well as guidance on the next steps in the project’s implementation, improving aspects such as automation through approaches based on artificial intelligence.
