BIOINFORMATICS
The Bioinformatics Unit is one of the scientific-technical platforms that make up the INiBICA SCAI. The mission of the Bioinformatics Unit, created in January 2021, is to provide a computational infrastructure that allows researchers to implement effective solutions for analyzing, visualizing, and/or interpreting data, mainly genomic and medical imaging data, as well as to meet the different technological needs resulting from research and clinical practice. The unit places special emphasis on the implementation and promotion of current and innovative technologies that enable high-quality results to be obtained for the development of biomedical research of excellence.
The Bioinformatics Unit has as its to to provide both INiBICA research groups and external organizations with the necessary knowledge and infrastructure in the field of bioinformatics, to collaborate in large-scale data analysis, and to offer digitization and automated microscopic image analysis services. Currently, robust platforms are being implemented to carry out the most common analyses related to genomic data, with the aim of transforming data from experimental techniques (mainly omics such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) into knowledge. It is worth highlighting the quality control in each of the steps carried out on these platforms to ensure the best possible results. The unit, which, as mentioned above, was recently created, aims to continuously expand and update, improving the services currently offered and incorporating new protocols and services based on new needs and demand. It is also important to note the resource of interaction with other INiBICA SCAI units, such as Genomics or Proteomics.

- SOFTWARE:
- The Bioinformatics Unit promotes the use of open-source programming languages, such as Python, which also facilitate the exchange of developments between researchers.
- OTHER COMPUTING RESOURCES:
- Microscopic image digitization.
- 3DHistech Pannoramic 250 digital slide scanner, for bright field and fluorescence.
