INiBICA

BIOINFORMATICS

The Bioinformatics Unit is one of the scientific-technical platforms that make up INiBICA’s SCAI. The mission of the Bioinformatics Unit, established in January 2021, is to provide a computational infrastructure that enables researchers to implement effective solutions for analyzing, visualizing, and/or interpreting data—primarily genomic and medical imaging data—as well as to meet the various technological needs arising from research and clinical practice. The unit places special emphasis on the implementation and promotion of current and innovative technologies that enable the production of high-quality results for the advancement of biomedical research of excellence.

The Bioinformatics Unit has as objective to provide both INiBICA research groups and external organizations with the necessary expertise and infrastructure in the field of bioinformatics, to collaborate on large-scale data analyses, and to offer services for digitization and automated analysis of microscopic images. Currently, robust platforms are being implemented to perform the most common analyses related to genomic data, with the goal of transforming data from experimental techniques (primarily “omics” such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) into knowledge. It is worth noting that quality control is conducted at every step of these platforms to ensure the best possible results. The unit, which was recently established as mentioned above, aims to continuously expand and update its capabilities, improving the services currently offered while incorporating new protocols and services based on emerging needs and demand. It is also important to note the unit’s collaboration with other SCAI units at INiBICA, such as Genomics and Proteomics.
