📢🔬 The 2022 Strategic Health Action Plan Has Been Published 🔬📢 - INiBICA

The Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, has published the results of the 2022 call for proposals for the Strategic Health Initiative (AES 2022) as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

The Strategic Health Initiative is the primary tool for funding biomedical and health research in Spain. Each year, it awards various grants to fund research contracts and research Projects to promote the development of R&D&I in health in Spain and the professional careers of its research community, particularly those focused on health.

The AES call for proposals for 2022 has a budget of more than 144 million euros to fund 15 regular calls for grants to support health research contracts and Projects , in addition to special calls linked to the PERTE de Salud de Vanguardia (Cutting-Edge Health PERTE), such as those for Infrastructure and Precision Medicine, which will be published throughout the year.

The main changes in AES2022 are aimed at stabilizing research careers through modifications to certain contracts; consolidating the independent clinical research centers ( Projects ); expanding the research groups within the CIBER Consortium; and restructuring the health technology development centers ( Projects ) to ensure a genuine transfer of knowledge.

STATE PROGRAM TO DEVELOP AND ATTRACT TALENT

STATE TRAINING SUBPROGRAM

+ PFIS Contracts: Pre-doctoral Contracts for Health Research Training +

  • Grants intended to fund contracts for initial training in health sciences and technologies through the completion of a doctoral dissertation linked to a project funded under the AES 2021 program.
  • Application period: March 17 through April 6 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Grants to support the hiring, at facilities providing clinical care, of recent graduates in the field of health sciences and technologies, to further their training.

+ Río Hortega Contracts +

  • Grants for hiring professionals who have completed the FSE (Specialized Health Training) program, to develop a training plan in health sciences and technologies research that they will pursue concurrently with clinical practice in their respective specialties.

STATE EMPLOYMENT INCORPORATION SUBPROGRAM

+ Contracts Miguel Servet +

  • The purpose of this initiative is, on the one hand, to hire physicians with a proven track record in research at clinical care centers, providing additional funding for the research activities they carry out, and, on the other hand, to grant subsidies to help these individuals secure permanent positions at those centers once their current contract has expired.

+ Type II " Miguel Servet " Contracts +

  • Support for the career advancement of researchers with Ph.D. degrees who hold Type I " Miguel Servet " contracts awarded through the 2017 AES call for proposals or earlier, and who are currently active, and who demonstrate an outstanding research track record during the term of their contract.

  • The purpose of this initiative is to hire medical staff with research experience in health sciences and technologies at public healthcare facilities that are part of Accredited Health Research Institutes.

+ Grants to Strengthen Research Activity in the Spanish National Health System +

  • The purpose of this initiative is to hire medical specialists, as well as individuals with university diplomas or degrees in nursing, dentistry, or physical therapy, at publicly owned healthcare facilities to perform part of the clinical and patient care duties of professionals who are simultaneously conducting research at Projects funded by AES.
  • Application period: March 2 through March 23 at 3:00 p.m.

STATE MOBILITY SUBPROGRAM

+ Mobility of Healthcare Professionals and Researchers in the Spanish National Health System (M-BAE) +

  • Grants intended to fund stays for healthcare professionals and researchers in the Spanish National Health System (SNS) to learn or refine techniques, technologies, or procedures in research, development, and technological innovation in the field of biomedicine at prestigious national or international institutions.
  • Application period: March 1 through March 22 at 3:00 p.m.

+ Mobility of research staff hired under the AES (M-AES) +

  • Grants intended to fund research staff’s stays at foreign R&D centers or at Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence and María de Maeztu Units of Excellence, with the aim of enhancing their training and expertise in research, development, and technological innovation.

  • The purpose of this initiative is to fund applied- Projects s to increase the maturity level of their technological development in one of the following categories: Projects Proof-of-Concept and Projects Technological Validation of Prototypes.

+ Call for Proposals for the " Projects " for Independent Clinical Research +

  • Grants to promote independent clinical research involving drugs for human use and/or advanced therapies by funding Projects studies not sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry.

  • The purpose of these initiatives is to promote the internationalization of R&D&I through direct funding of Spanish entities that are members of transnational consortia and that have previously successfully applied for transnational calls for proposals in which the Spanish National Research and Innovation Agency ( ISCIII ) participates as a funding body.
