🤝🔬 A well-established scientific conference that once again positions the province as a leader in the debate and latest developments in oncological urology, advanced surgery, and technological innovation. 🚀 During the various panel discussions and sessions, key topics such as precision medicine, advanced surgical planning, and the translation of research into clinical practice were addressed, reinforcing the exchange of knowledge and the application of the latest advances in patient care. 🗣️ The meeting was opened by José Luis Álvarez-Ossorio, chair of the organizing committee, alongside Manuel Rosety, dean of the UUCA School of Medicine, and José Luis Guijarro, manager of the Puerta del Mar-San Carlos University Hospital Complex and president of FCÁDIZ—the foundation that manages INiBICA—who emphasized the importance of research, continuing education, and collaboration between the academic and healthcare sectors. 🤖 The keynote speaker was urologist Andrea Minervini, an expert in robotic oncological surgery, who presented the latest advances in this field. Three professors from the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation at Cádiz discuss the scientific and technology transfer focus of this joint initiative between the UCA and the Regional Government of Andalusia 🔬 Professors José Castro Piñero, Mónica García Alloza , and José Antonio Girón recently opened the doors of the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation at Cádiz (INiBICA) to share how their scientific work directly impacts society and how the institution has established itself as a driving force in biomedical research. 👩‍🔬 Careers That Transform Science: 🧠 José Castro Piñero, a professor of Physical Education and Sports, recalls that his research journey began in college, inspired by a professor who taught him to critically analyze scientific literature, and was solidified by a pivotal stint at UCLA that reinforced his motivation to generate knowledge. 🧬 Mónica García Alloza, professor of Physiology, explains that her interest in the biomedical sciences—and in particular in the brain and Alzheimer’s disease—arose thanks to the support of two professors during her training, which led her to work in research even before completing her studies and to spend time at institutions such as Harvard. 🧪 José Antonio Girón, a professor of medicine, notes that he has always been motivated to understand the mechanisms of disease and healing, and that his research is a way to contribute his own knowledge to medicine. 📈 Projects with an impact on the public: 👦 Castro Piñero highlights the development of the ALPHA Battery, a scientific tool for assessing health-related physical fitness in children and adolescents, which has been adopted by schools across Europe and is widely used in research. Daniel Palenque, a predoctoral researcher with the EM31 group—the Lipid Metabolism and Metabolic Diseases Group at INiBICA—participated in the regional meeting of the Granada Network for Translational Research in Metabolism (Granamet), held in Granada 📊🗣️ During his presentation, Daniel shared the results of his doctoral thesis, which focuses on the study of fat metabolism in metabolic liver disease (MASLD, also known as fatty liver disease), a condition of great clinical significance and growing prevalence. 🚀 His participation in this scientific forum provided an opportunity to share recent advances and foster the exchange of knowledge in the field of translational research on metabolism. 💙👏 Congratulations on this excellent scientific contribution!

On January 29 and 30, 2026, the School of Medicine at the University of Cádiz will host the new Congress of the Andalusian Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (SAEP) 🧬🩺 The event will feature a comprehensive program including scientific lectures, oral presentations, roundtable discussions on clinical trials, and a session dedicated to the history of pediatric endocrinology in Andalusia. The initiative, which has been underway for a few months, plans to recruit about 4,000 participants for the study in Rota and Chipiona 📍 The municipality of Rota hosted the presentation of the national IMPaCT project (Infrastructure for Precision Medicine Associated with Science and Technology), an ambitious initiative promoted at the national level that aims to advance toward a model of personalized and precision medicine, focused on each person’s individual characteristics. 🏥 The event took place at the Rota Health Center, which is actively participating in the project as part of the Chipiona-Rota Node, thereby strengthening the involvement of Andalusian primary care in this nationwide research effort. 🔬 An unprecedented population-based study: IMPaCT is a population-based longitudinal study that will follow approximately 200,000 people over a 20-year period through primary care centers located throughout the country. 📊 Throughout the study, clinical, biological, genetic, psychological, social, and environmental data will be collected, enabling an analysis of how these factors interact in the onset and progression of various diseases. 🎯 Main objectives of the project: The IMPaCT project aims to: ✔️ Identify risk and protective factors associated with various diseases. ✔️ Improve prevention, early diagnosis, and treatments by tailoring them to each individual. ✔️ Promote precision medicine within the National Health System. ✔️ Generate high-value scientific knowledge for public health. 🧠 Person-centered medicine: Personalized medicine allows clinical decisions to be tailored by taking into account each individual’s genetic variability, environment, and lifestyle, leading to more effective and safer interventions. 🤝 Citizen participation and local engagement: The Rota Health Center’s involvement in this project reinforces the role of citizens as active participants in biomedical research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the development of strategies that will benefit future generations. 📆 A long-term project: With an expected duration of two decades, IMPaCT has established itself as one of the most significant health research initiatives in Spain, positioning Rota as a key player in a nationally renowned scientific project. 🔗 More information: Rota Today || Instagram
