⏳ Twenty-five years ago, the University of Cádiz welcomed its first researchers from the Ramón y Cajal program, a national initiative created in 2000 to attract and retain scientific talent in Spain. Since then, the institution has seen 47 scientists come through its doors who, thanks to this program, have been able to establish their professional careers and strengthen cutting-edge lines of basic and applied research.
🌟Among the pioneers is our colleague Carmen Castro, a principal investigator (PI) with the “ CO5: ” Neurogenesis and Neuroregeneration Group at INiBICA and the Department of Biomedicine, Biotechnology, and Public Health at the UCA. Her appointment in 2003 as one of the program’s first recipients not only provided an opportunity to stabilize her career but also gave a boost to biomedical research at the Cádiz-based institution.
🚀 The Ramón y Cajal Program has been instrumental in bringing back talent and establishing a solid scientific foundation at Spanish universities, which has helped consolidate leading research groups and pave the way for new generations of scientists, demonstrating how commitment and excellence can transform the future of science within the university setting.
