A new functional mapping technique developed by the arrhythmia unit at the Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar (EM1) could aid in the treatment of persistent atrial fibrillation by detecting areas of abnormal atrial myocardial substrate. These results reveal that there are differences in myocardial substrate in patients with more advanced atrial fibrillation.
INGPOL PROJECT In 2023, Cádiz ’s Foundation for Biomedical Research Management (INiBICA) signed two collaboration agreements with AbbVie Spain, S.L.U. to support the study conducted by healthcare professionals from the Hospital Pharmacy Unit at the University Hospital of Jerez de la Frontera aimed at developing a web-based tool to predict the probability of hospitalization risk in patients taking multiple medications. Under the terms of both agreements, AbbVie Spain, S.L.U. presented the Foundation with two financial contributions of €35,000 and €15,000. The funds will help develop the project, whose primary objective is to improve prescribing practices for patients on multiple medications by creating an application and software to manage information related to the treatments they receive, thereby allowing time and effort to be focused on those patients who require better care. The impact of this initiative is significant for the pharmacy department and other medical services. The INiBICA Foundation seeks to promote scientific and training- Projects , in accordance with its founding mission; therefore, it considers it appropriate and beneficial to receive collaboration in this regard from both public and private institutions and organizations. El D. Manuel María Ortega Marlasca y el D. José Pedro Novalbos Ruiz, investigadores INIBICA del grupo CO15: «Población y Salud: Determinantes e Intervenciones», han obtenido el 2do premio a la Mejor Comunicación Póster en el 32º Congreso Médico de la Sociedad Andaluza de Hipertensión Arterial y Riesgo Vascular (SAHTA) El médico jerezano Manuel María Ortega Marlasca ha conseguido el segundo premio a la mejor comunicación póster en el 32º Congreso de la Sociedad Andaluza de Hipertensión Arterial y Riesgo Vascular (SAHTA) celebrado días atrás en Córdoba. El trabajo lo ha realizado junto a sus compañeros José Pedro Novalbos Ruiz y Carmen Sánchez García. El título del póster con el que se ha alzado con el segundo premio es ‘Cribado de la enfermedad renal crónica oculta en el centro de salud Jerez Sur. Mes del riñón‘. La reunión anual de la SAHTA sirve como foro de encuentro de divulgación y discusión multidisciplinar de la realidad sanitaria del entorno y de los avances científicos en el campo del riesgo vascular. La entrega de los V Premios Salud y Bienestar reúne un año más a profesionales, pacientes y personalidades del sector en una velada que rindió homenaje al talento y la innovación El Hotel Alfonso XIII en Sevilla acogió el pasado martes la ceremonia de entrega de los Premios Salud y Bienestar de Grupo Joly. Alcanzando su quinta edición, la cita se ha convertido en un punto de encuentro ineludible, amable y consolidado para el sector sanitario andaluz. Los galardones son una iniciativa de Grupo Joly, con el apoyo de Cofares y Teva, que trata de premiar y dar visibilidad a personas o iniciativas de tres ámbitos distintos pero que comparten un objetivo común: apoyar el cuidado de la salud y la prevención en Andalucía con un plus de excelencia y con una clara contribución al bienestar social. De este modo los premios se orientan al reconocimiento de profesionales del ámbito de la farmacia, la investigación y los movimientos asociativos que mejoran la vida de los pacientes. En esta ocasión, los premiados han sido Jaime Román, actual presidente del Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Sevilla, en la categoría Farmacia; la investigadora María Rosa Durán, especializada en la investigación en cáncer infantil a nivel nacional, en la categoría Investigación; y la Asociación Andaluza De Fibrosis Quística en la categoría Pacientes. La ceremonia, presentada por Magdalena Trillo, asesora de Transformación Digital en Grupo Joly, arrancó con la intervención del doctor Carlos Infantes, presidente de la Real Academia de Medicina de Sevilla y presidente del Jurado de estos galardones. Su intervención fue toda una ponencia y una profunda reflexión sobre el alcance del suicidio como un problema sanitario y social de primer orden tanto en adultos como en jóvenes. Por ello, animó a mejorar la capacidad de todos para “no subestimar las señales de alerta que suelen preceder a estos episodios”. “Ningún intento debe considerarse una llamada de atención sino una petición de ayuda”, sentenció el doctor Infantes. Según expuso, hablar sobre el tema es prevenirlo y, de hecho, “los medios también tienen un papel crucial que debe llevar la información sobre suicidios a las páginas de salud y no de sucesos”. La prevención es compleja, pero se puede y se debe prevenir. “Necesitamos estrategias de prevención que deben ser dotadas con los recursos. La Consejería de Salud y Consumo puso en marcha un Programa de Intervención de la Conducta Suicida 2022-2023 que deben constituir un marco de referencia”. La Academia de Medicina de Sevilla ha puesto de manifiesto su preocupación por este tema en algunas iniciativas de debate sobre la pandemia, la salud mental y la conducta suicida. Tras la intervención del doctor Infantes, tuvo lugar la entrega del primer premio de la noche. Así, Eduardo Pastor, presidente de Cofares, subió al estrado para hacer entrega del galardón en la categoría Farmacia a Jaime Román, actual presidente del Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Sevilla. Román es vocal de la Junta directiva de la Fundación Pharmaceutical Care, docente en los Masters Atención Farmacéutica de la Universidad de Sevilla y de San Pablo CEU. Durante la lectura del acta de los premiados, Victoria Herrera, responsable de Desarrollo de Negocio de Grupo Joly, destacó que “su carrera profesional definida por la integración del farmacéutico como referente sanitario en su entorno, y la promoción de proyectos que potencien el desarrollo profesional en este sector, son algunos de los ejes enmarcados en su plan de actuación”. Jaime Román destacó su orgullo por recibir un premio que es “un reconocimiento a la farmacia asistencial”. Además, quiso dedicar el tiempo al equipo de su farmacia, sita en el barrio sevillano de San Julián, “con una filosofía clara, trabajar en el binomio medicamento-paciente buscando siempre resultados en salud”; y destacó la importancia de trabajar codo con codo con la Atención Primaria. Por último, quiso compartir el premio con todas las personas que forman parte de la nueva Junta de Gobierno del Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Sevilla y “su compromiso por trabajar por la evolución de la farmacia para dar respuesta a la sociedad del Siglo XXI”. Acto seguido, se hizo entrega del premio en la categoría Investigación. Juan Carlos Conde, director general Teva para España y Portugal fue el encargado de entregar el galardón que en esta ocasión recayó sobre la investigadora María Rosa Durán. Esta investigadora centra su interés en obtener resultados que tengan una traslación a problemas no resueltos de la medicina con especial dedicación al cáncer infantil. Actualmente es Profesora Titular de Universidad de Cádiz, doctora en Matemáticas e investigadora principal de cuatro proyectos de investigación en cáncer infantil a nivel nacional. Además de una trayectoria importante en este ámbito, el galardón pone en valor uno de sus proyectos, ‘Recaída 0: Matemáticas contra la leucemia infantil’, que se centra en mejorar la clasificación de riesgo de pacientes de leucemias linfoblásticas agudas por medio de algoritmos matemáticos, para así anticipar las resistencias a los tratamientos y evitar las recaídas. María Rosa Durán agradeció el premio a los organizadores y quiso dedicárselo a su familia y a su directora de tesis y profesora emérita de la Universidad de Cádiz, María Luz Gandaria. Asimismo, quiso hacer mención a la Asociación Pablo Ugarte contra el cáncer infantil “que siempre me dio apoyo desde que inicié este proyecto”. Agradeció la labor de su equipo, pieza clave para llegar a dónde hemos llegado. “El futuro es la investigación, es la cura del mañana. Necesitamos nuevas armas y nuevas perspectivas para aquellas enfermedades que necesitan una cura. Un 25% de los casos de cáncer infantil corresponden a la leucemia”, explicó. El tercer y último galardón de la noche lo entregó la consejera de Salud y Consumo de la Junta de Andalucía, Catalina García, y estuvo destinado a la Asociación Andaluza De Fibrosis Quística, que recogió el premio en manos de su tesorero, José Manuel López. On September 18, the Asociación Red Profesional Mujeres Imparables celebrated its eighth anniversary at the R&D Center of Titania Ensayos y Projects Industriales with a diverse and innovative program featuring influential women from Barcelona, Cádiz , and Valencia who are members of the organization. The event focused on the organization’s mission and priority of giving women a voice and a prominent role in conferences and Events on across a wide range of fields, including equality, science, solidarity, and business. Two leading researchers from UCA-INiBICA research groups participated in the panel discussion “Women in Science: Challenges and Opportunities,” where they shared their perspectives alongside four female scientists from Cádiz on the role of women in advancing scientific and technical progress, the challenges and obstacles they have faced and continue to face, as well as their vision for the future of Spanish science. On the one hand, Dr. María Rosa Durán (Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Cádiz, who leads the project “Relapse 0: Mathematics Against Childhood Leukemia”) emphasized the importance of informing young women about careers in science. On the other hand, Dr. Rosa María Mateos (Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Granada) denounced the precarious working conditions in the field of science and the lack of work-life balance policies. In addition, they visited the “Encyclopedia of Women in STEAM” exhibition, guided by its authors, Nuria Salán and Sandra Uve. The “Encyclopedia of Women in STEAM” highlights brilliant women in the field of science and is designed as a traveling exhibition that could be displayed at various venues in the future.
