Thanks to the warm reception given this year to Rolucan's initiative to sell charity T-shirts to mark World Breast Cancer Awareness Day, which was celebrated on October 19, this association has been able to fulfill its goal of donating a portion of the money raised to research into a cure for breast cancer.
In total, €3,000 has been donated to the Cádiz Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation Management Cádiz which manages the Cádiz Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation), which now has this contribution at its disposal to continue with the research that is so necessary to combat this disease. Last week, members of the Rolucan board of directors, including its president Toñi López, María del Mar Patino, and Patro Peña, visited the Puerta del Mar Hospital in Cádiz, where the foundation is located on the ninth floor. Through Dr. José Manuel Baena Cañada, an oncologist and member of Team they contacted, the donation was made.
For Rolucan, as announced on the day the charity shirt was unveiled, contributing to research was a priority, as it has been since 2015 when the Charity Run and Walk Against Breast Cancer in Rota began. During the five editions held, the response from the public has been a success, which has made it possible to make these contributions, as well as to continue their work as an association.
Delivering this money, which is the result of the solidarity of an entire town like Rota, is a source of great satisfaction for those who work every day at Rolucan to improve the quality of life of local cancer patients. Therefore, the rest of the money raised from the sale of the 2,500 T-shirts will go towards the annual maintenance of two essential services for this group: physiotherapy and psychology, which are offered at their headquarters in the El Molino Municipal Social Center.
Rolucan wanted to show its gratitude to all those who, with their contributions, helped this charitable cause. Even though the race and charity walk were canceled, they decided to buy the pink warrior T-shirt at the center—referring to this year's design by María Díaz—and wear it on October 19 in the streets of Rota.
In the interests of transparency, which this cancer charity promotes in its management, it has reported on the destination of funds that would have been impossible to raise without the collaboration of the people of Rota. For this reason, they have expressed their infinite gratitude to everyone who purchased a T-shirt, to their sponsors—Hevetia and Rota Casa—and to Rota Town Council.
