The university president accompanies the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Universities on his visit to INiBICA's new clinical trials unit
The event highlights the strategic role of the new UiC in promoting translational clinical research in the province of Cádiz
The president of the University of Cádiz, Casimiro Mantell, accompanied the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa, on his visit to the Jerez-INiBICA Early-Phase Clinical Research Unit, a key facility for conducting advanced clinical trials in the province.
The visit began with an institutional reception attended by, among others, Áurea Morillo, Secretary General for Research, Innovation, and Digital Health at the Department of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Regional Government of Andalusia; Gonzalo Balbontín, Executive Director of the Andalusian Foundation for Progress and Health; Eva Pajares, Regional Delegate for Health and Consumer Affairs in Cádiz; Isabel Benavente, Vice Rector for Health Sciences and Well-being at the University Community of the UCA; the President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Management of Biomedical Research at Cádiz, Management Entity from INiBICA, José Luis Guijarro; Julio Ríos, Executive Director of INiBICA; and Esther Berrocoso, Deputy Scientific Director of the institute.
During the tour, the university president highlighted the strategic importance of this unit in consolidating the University of Cádiz ’s position in the field of biomedical research and strengthening collaboration with the Andalusian public health system. For his part, the secretary of state was able to see firsthand the facilities, technical resources, and the work of the specialized staff who conduct clinical trials in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety.
The Jerez-INiBICA Early-Phase Clinical Research Unit represents a qualitative leap forward in the research capacity of the province’s healthcare and academic communities. Its launch will advance translational clinical research, facilitating the transformation of laboratory findings into therapeutic solutions that can be applied in clinical practice.
During the visit, the unit’s main achievements were also presented, along with its decisive contribution to INiBICA’s recent accreditation by the Carlos III Health Institute—a recognition that attests to the institute’s scientific and organizational excellence.
With this visit, the University of Cádiz reinforces its commitment to generating knowledge, attracting research talent, and improving health care through cutting-edge clinical research.
